Twin cities: Poitiers (France), Xi’an (China), Vinita (Ukraine), Padova (Italy), Assiut (Egypt), Isfahan (Iran), Sant’Oreste (Italy), Nazzano (Italy), Torrita Tiberina (Italy), Filacciano (Italy), Forano (Italy), Morlupo (Italy), Athens (Greece), Georgia (USA), Quebec (Canada), Peristeri (Greece), Villeneuve d’Ascq (France), Jerico (Palestine).

By the way this year we are celebrating 600 years from the first documentary attestation in 1408. Also this is an electoral year so I don't really know why the city is so "nice & so clean, clean" . I thik our mayor wants to gain our votes in the D day.

Still, I don't really care why they embellish but I'm happy they do it.

Iasi Wikipedia travel to Iasi

General information about Iasi from Wikipedia

How to travel to Iasi?

By plane

Iasi has a small international airport (code IAS). It is served by several airlines:

The airport is about 8km from the city center. The only transportation to the city is by taxi. A metered taxi to the center of Iaşi should cost no more than about RON 15–20; it's not unheard of for them to try and get away with charging upwards of €10. Most city taxis have meters; insist that they use it. The metered rate is 1.6 RON per kilometre outside city limits and 1.4 RON per kilometre inside them.

If arriving from another country, bear in mind that there are no currency exchange outlets at Iaşi airport. There is an ATM outside the building. Since taxi drivers accept RON, not euro or other currencies, you will need to be able to withdraw money from this ATM or arrive in Iaşi with RON.

By train

It is well connected by train with Bucharest. The train station is quite close to the center, you can go walking.

You can also take direct trains from Budapest, which is well linked to Western Europe.

A train ticket from Iaşi to Bucharest costs around 20 euros when using the most expensive and luxurious option, the inter-city called Sageata Albastra (Blue Arrow).

By car

There are a couple of possibilities to reach Iaşi from all over the country on national roads. Recently these roads have been improved and are not blocked by traffic jams. To reach Iaşi from Bucharest usually takes five to six hours by car. Although the situation has been steadily improving, it is crucial to have a map in order to reach Iasi from Bucharest without having to stop and ask for directions. The locals know which turns to take - there aren't many, but they are not marked with large arrows as they are in the United States.

By bus

Romania is criss-crossed by many "mini buses", sometimes called "maxi taxi". They are faster than the trains, and can be taken directly from the international airport in Bucharest.

Iasi - Alexandru Ioan Cuza university

The oldest university in Romania.
They have recently illuminated the building, and now it's a real pleasure to go in a midnight walk under the trees on Copou and admire the light effects.

thsi is what you will find written on their home page:

"The Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of IASI is the oldest higher education institution in Romania. Since 1860, the university has been carrying on a tradition of excellence and innovation in the fields of education and research. With over 36.000 students and 900 academic staff, the university enjoys a high prestige at national and international level and cooperates with over 180 universities world-wide. The Alexandru Ioan Cuza University became the first student-centered university in Romania, once the Bologna Process was put into practice. Research at our university is top level. For the second year in a row, the University is placed first in the national research ranking. Striving for excellence, the university takes unique initiatives to stimulate research quality, to encourage dynamic and creative education and to attract the best students to academic life."

Weather in IASI

It's 2:30 pm and raining for several hours, I’m kind of bored of this cloudy weather.

I want back the sun that I’m use to. No more RAIN!!!

Anyway...here in IASI is mostly sunny, and if want to come in summer you will find temperatures around 30 degrees C.

The winter is cold, not very but there are days when you don't want to live the house. There can be temperatures of around -10 to -18 if it's really cold.

I think I will make habit in presenting the weather here in IASI, so you can get an idea.

International event in IASI - Iashington

Iashington is a conference organized by AIESEC IASI from 1 to 7 September 2008.

The goal of the event is to bring 160 international young people to Iasi for a week of multiculturalism and discussions about: Entrepreneurship, Technology, Leadership and Development.

The goal is quite ambitious as I see it. 160 international people to come in Iasi is a very high number considering that the total number of foreign people that visited Iasi in 2007 was only a little bit more than 20.000. This means that there are no more than 1700 foreign people to come in Iasi on the average each month. Increasing the number of international people that arrive in Iasi in September 2008 with 10% will be a very good achievement!

The conference will start with an "Opening Gala" on 1st September.

Via www.strategy-for-iasi.com

From 1 to 4 September there will be working-groups around the specific topics: Entrepreneurship, Technology, Leadership and Development. In the evenings there are planned relaxing activities: parties, traditional meals (Bolta Rece), visiting cultural places and touristic attractions in Iasi, treasure hunt, teambuildings and others.

On 5th September the organizers planned a tour of Iasi so that the participants will have the opportunity to visit various interesting places such as: memorial houses, museums, The Botanical Garden. Hopefully they will be as impressed as I was of these small wonders hidden around Iasi.

But the greatest event, in my opinion, will be a Global Village organized in Copou park. On 6th September, people from Iasi will have the chance to see the whole world in miniature in their city. Young people from allover the world will be in the same place presenting their culture, their values and traditions. I think that there are a lot of people in Iasi that never saw someone from Africa or from Latin America in flesh an bones. How about seeing people from different religions sharing the same food and talking and sharing ideas in a constructive way.

Youth allover the world faces similar problems. I think it will be great for young people in Iasi to meet and interact with peers from different countries. To learn from them, to see the realities in their countries. See the sittuation in countries that are more developed than Romania but also in countries that are less developed.

The whole project will end on 8th September with a "Closing Gala" that will also be attended by the Partners of the project.

Interested people can contact the organizing team for more details or write an e-mail to: iashington2008@gmail.com

Airbites - good quality of services, good download speed, more money

UPC - I think they are lame, bad transfer, and I don't like the name either

Romtelecom - national provider, low quality services, don't like

Most of the people i know have mobile telephony from Orange, so if you are comming in this area and you want to buy a new card i sugest Orange.
